4 Ways To Jumpstart This Year

We have finally entered 2019 and if your first month of the year has been anything like mine, you’re exhausted! It’s this weird things about rushing into the new year that brings excitement, anxiety and fear all in one. It can be difficult to rest or even stay focus when you’re trying to keep with all your resolutions, but no worries, I have some tips on how to kick yourself into gear!

POWERHOUR

With 24 hours in a day it can be hard to get on a fix schedule for self care and to crush goals. I’m sure we’ve all had those moments where we see someone who’s “getting ahead” and wonder what they’re doing that you’re not. One trick I used last year was creating a power hour. This idea came about from my accountability partner one day when we were working out our monthly goals. What you do is one hour during your day or night schedule time to go with work with no distractions. Try picking a time that you know you’re most productive. During this hour allow the first 20 minutes for meditation. Give yourself a clean slate before you dive in. Turn off your devices, maybe play some soothing musics and prepare yourself mentally. Having a cute notebook to jot notes down can help keep your ideas coming. You can  shop and pick up some of my new notebooks in the shop . After an hour, you probably would have gotten more work done than expected and boy does that feels good!

BEING HEALTHIER

One little secret about me is I use to be so freaking unhealthy. I ate fried chicken almost every few days, I never worked out, I drank a lot during the weekends and I didn’t keep up my water intake. It took me having to get sick multiple time from being exhausted to realize that my health was important. With more energy I could get more work done and taking care of my body allowed for me to feel better, which of lead to me doing better work. It wasn’t an easy change but I’m good at making myself be consistent. I started with just two days in the gym and worked my way up to now 5 days a week. I downloaded a hydration app that allowed me to count how much water I drank a day and even sends me reminders. Changing my eating habits was probably the hardest. I’m such a foodie! I still haven’t master that part but I purchased meal prep containers and have tried a few recipes. Figure out what works best for you and your lifestyle. Maybe even get a workout partner or hire a trainer. Just remember, health is wealth!

Here’s 3 smoothie recipes for goodness:
Banana Mama 2 Bananas, 1/2 cup of Vanilla nonfat yogurt, 1/2 cup of Vanilla Almond milk, chia seeds and ice -- For added flavor use Peach nonfat yogurt
Go Green - 3/4 cup of spinach leaves, 1/2 sliced green apple, 1/2 banana, 1 kiwi, 1/2 cup of pineapples, peach fruit juice. 
Watermelon Mojito 3 cups of watermelon, 1 squeezed lime, 1/4 cup of sugar, 4 mint lines or peppermint flavoring and ice. 

DECLUTTER

As an artist who lives in her workspace, my creative mess is out of control. I rarely have time to clean like I want but I try to dedicate at least one morning or evening to clean my apartment. I have a bad habit of holding on to things I no longer need, like empty bottles of paint just so I can remember what to buy next time. When your workspace/safe space is clean and organized it allows a clear path for your mind. Since I wear a lot of hats and get pulled left and right daily it’s absolutely necessary for me to have a mental cleanse. Don’t just purge your closet or kitchen drawer, look into those who are taking up your space emotionally as well. I’ve always been the friend that’s always there for someone no matter what. It could be 3 years without a word and if you hit me up, in need of a friend, I’ll be there. I’m not that person anymore. Creating boundaries is a part of the clean up process. After decluttering your life inside and out I’m sure everything will start making sense again.

GIVING BACK

Taking care of yourself is always the priority when it comes to self care. After you’ve gathered all the positive energy you’ve been missing, it’s time to share it with others. A huge misconception is that giving, helping or supporting someone else is going to take something away from you. You will still be full, please remember that. I’ve never advised an artist and lost money. I’ve never supported an organization and felt empty. Giving back has always made me feel full and a great way to kick off your year! Find creative ways to give back. Local prom dress drive could be a way to let go of your high school prom dress (declutter) and helping a student in need simultaneously. Dropping sanitary products off at a shelter or in my case giving away art supplies to those in needs. If you don’t have anything tangible to give away remember you have your energy. Go to meetups or mentor at a middle school. And if you can’t find anything, be the one to create a program or partner with someone else who’s already involved. Who knows, you may find a new hobby or even think about changing career paths after giving back.

The best part is you can always do these things. Whether it’s every week, month or year! There is time to start again and you’ll always have options!
